Want customers to find your business on WhatsApp without having to remember or save your phone number? A WhatsApp Business Username can make it easier for customers to identify and connect with your business.

With Wbotz, businesses can use WhatsApp Business features to manage customer conversations, improve communication, and build a stronger digital presence. In this tutorial, we’ll explain what a WhatsApp Business Username is, who can use it, how to claim one, the username rules, and how to change or delete it.

Who Can Use WhatsApp Business Username?

The WhatsApp Business Username feature is available for eligible WhatsApp Business channels connected through supported Cloud API providers.

Within Wbotz, access to username management can depend on your account permissions and WhatsApp channel configuration.

Users with the required channel-management permissions can claim or manage a username. If you do not see the option, contact your Wbotz account administrator.

What Is a WhatsApp Business Username?

A WhatsApp Business Username is a unique handle associated with your WhatsApp Business account.

For example:

@mayacakes

Instead of asking customers to remember a long phone number, you can share your business username as another way for customers to identify your business.

A username can help make your WhatsApp presence easier to recognize across your customer communication and marketing activities.

Does a Username Hide Your Phone Number?

No.

Claiming a WhatsApp Business Username does not automatically hide your business phone number. Customers who already have your phone number may still be able to see and use it according to WhatsApp's applicable settings and policies.

WhatsApp Business Username Statuses

After you submit a username, it may have different statuses depending on its approval and availability.

Status

What It Means

Reserved

Your username request has been accepted and the username is being held for your business.

Approved

Your username is active and available for customers to find your business on WhatsApp.

The availability and rollout of usernames can depend on Meta's eligibility requirements and regional availability.

WhatsApp Business Username Rules

Before claiming a username, make sure it follows the required format.

A suitable username should generally follow these rules:

  • It should contain 3–24 characters.

  • Use lowercase letters, numbers, periods (.), and underscores (_).

  • The username must contain at least one letter.

  • It should not start or end with a period.

  • It should not contain two consecutive periods.

  • It should not start with www.

  • It should not end with a common domain extension such as .com, .org, .net, or .in.

Example of Valid Usernames

  • @mayacakes

  • @maya_cakes

  • @maya.cakes

  • @mybusiness24

Examples to Avoid

  • @wwwmayacakes

  • @.mayacakes

  • @mayacakes.

  • @maya..cakes

Keep your username simple and closely related to your business name so customers can recognize it easily.

Username Availability and Similar Names

Username availability is not based only on capitalization.

For example:

  • @mayacakes

  • @maya.cakes

  • @maya_cakes

can be treated as different usernames because periods and underscores matter.

This means you should choose a username carefully and check availability before submitting your request.

How to Change a WhatsApp Business Username

If you want to use a different username later, you may need to remove the existing username before claiming another one.

The general process is:

  1. Open Wbotz.

  2. Go to WhatsApp.

  3. Open Channel Settings.

  4. Select the relevant WhatsApp Business number.

  5. Locate your existing username.

  6. Remove or delete the current username.

  7. Submit a new username request.

  8. Wait for the new username to be processed or approved.

Keep in mind that a previously used username may not become available again immediately.
